Breckenridge, Colorado Alpine Lake Elopement
One of my absolute favorite places for couples to elope is Breckenridge, Colorado. Breckenridge has so many wonderful aspects to offer: from the sweeping mountainous landscapes, cotton candy sunsets, alpine lakes, wildlife, and more. Not to mention, it only takes about an hour and a half to drive here from Denver, making it one of the closest areas to Denver to choose to elope. Now, to our amazing couple, Alexis + Matt. These two traveled all the way from Oklahoma to elope in Breck, and they had a truly magical experience getting married in the mountains. We started at their AirBNB, packed up their wedding attire, and hit the trails. These two decided to elope at one of my favorite alpine lakes in the area, with only a short 1.5 mile hike to get there. We had a touch of sprinkling rain, but these two were troopers and we kept moving along. Once we got to the alpine lake surrounded by gorgeous peaks, these two split up to get dressed in their wedding attire.
After sharing a sweet first look, we went into their elopement ceremony, where these two read personal vows, exchanged rings, and popped champagne to celebrate. These two chose to self-solemnize, which means you can legally marry yourselves without the presence of an officiant or witnesses (AKA the reason why Colorado is the best place to elope because you don’t need anyone but you). These two shared a wedding day picnic with champagne and a slice of cake, signed their marriage license, then we got to hike around the area, explore the lake and mountains, and witness a truly epic Colorado summer sunset, before hiking back to the car in the dark.
Getting to plan and be a part of my couple’s adventurous elopements makes my heart so happy. Ditching tradition and getting married in the wilderness is definitely the way to go!
