Telluride Summer Alpine Lake Elopement
When Joanna + Mike reached out to me about having their elopement in Telluride with their dog there to be their witness, I said SAY LESS LEMME PACK MY BAGS! As we were planning I remember how excited they got when we talked through their elopement day, and just how magical it was going to be.
As we made our way up the 4x4 road, we knew we were in for a fun adventure. Just outside of Telluride resides a sweet little ghost town with a plethora of lakes, camp sites, and epic views all around. We claimed a camp spot to host their sweet ceremony, just the two of them and their pup.
Their lakeside ceremony was full of happy tears and beautiful vows, after which we explored around the lake a bit more. The wildflowers around the lake were absolutely GORGEOUS. The San Juan mountain range has some of the most beautiful wildflowers during the summertime, and I’m so glad they were thriving when we viewed them.
As the sun set, Joanna + Mike set up a sweet picnic on their camp site that was the most dreamy boho picnic I’ve seen! The aesthetic of the table decor, topped off with fruit, a cake, and gorgeous blankets and pillows, was the perfect touch for their private picnic! One thing I will note about the picnic is that it follows Leave No Trace principles. I always advice my couples to only pack things made of non-breakable material (like glass), as well as nothing that sticks into the ground. However, as we were on a reserved campsite where you’re allowed to put stakes in the ground and lap blankets down, that wasn’t so much of an issue. However, I like to play it safe rather than sorry!
When it was time to get their marriage license signed, they got their pup all suited up for the job. If you love dogs in bow ties, you’re going to want to see these photos! He was such a good boy and gave the perfect paw print to serve as their witness on their marriage license (YES, it’s 100% legal in Colorado for your dog to serve as your witness)! He even left a bit of a print on Joanna’s dress, which we had a good laugh about.
